Charles & Ray Eames

THE ORIGINAL DESIGNERS
.
Charles Eames hails from Missouri, where he originally worked in architecture, before moving into design at Michigan’s Cranbrook Academy of Art, where he met Ray, who had previously studied painting in New York. The pair moved to California during the 1940s, and contributed to the war effort with their practical moulded plywood creations, before beginning production in earnest in 1946.
.
Renowned for their significant contribution not just to furniture design but also to architecture, industrial design and photography, the Pacific Palisades home the pair built in 1949 became an instant magnet for architects and designers, and is still considered one of the world’s most iconic, innovative and important post-war residences.
